Mind Your Manners: Dog Etiquette When Selling Your Home

Thinking about putting your home on the market but not sure what to do with your pup? We teamed up with our friends over at Dogetiquette to share our top tips for getting your home sold and maintaining a good relationship with your four-legged friend in the process.

So, you are thinking of selling? Congratulations! We're assuming you're already planning to clean up the house before your potential buyers come over, maybe put out fresh flowers and play some soft music? Of course you've told your sweet pup to greet your guests with a glass of lemonade and share all of his favorite moments of living in the house with them when they arrive, right? Wait, that's not going to happen!

Planning to sell your home with a pup who doesn't necessarily understand home selling etiquette can be stressful for you and your four-legged friend, but it doesn't have to be. Don't be surprised if your furry best friend knows that something's up, he's just not sure what ... or if it will come back down. He might start acting up, he might start running around in circles but there are a few things you can teach him about dog etiquette before he makes too much of a mess.

Arrange for your pet to be out of the home during showings - I know that this will take a little extra coordination on your part but you can make a doggy day care date for him when your home is being shown or meet a pet sitter in your area who can take your pup for a walk when showing requests are made last minute. Definitely plan to put away all of his creature comforts unless he's home and using them and he'll start to get excited for when you pull them back out. Do everything you can to keep up with vacuuming pet hair and eliminating odors - that lovable face just isn't enough to win the buyers over, even though it gets you every day! And, don't forget to talk to your real estate agent, we're here to make the process as smooth as possible for your WHOLE family.

The best part?

Rewarding your pooch for a job well done with a trip to Cosmo Dog Park, Quail Run Park, or one of the many Chandler dog parks for some off-leash fun or grabbing a bite on the patio of your local Paradise Bakery for a dog friendly treat will ensure that your friend is still, well, your friend.
